The Champaign-Urbana Reparations Coalition meets at 6:30PM on the third Thursday of every month at New Covenant Fellowship, 124 W. White St. in Champaign.
The CU Reparations Coalition often collaborates with State Representative Carol Ammons, shown on the right, to develop and support legislation for racial justice. In 2024, Dr. Jeff Trask (center) and Dr. LaKisha David (L) were also in Springfield, IL, for a lobbying day. We are grateful to Representative Ammons for being an especially committed and powerful champion for reparations.

Having helped to establish an intergovernmental coalition to study reparations with funding from the Urbana City Council and The Champaign County Board, CURC members have been working to encourage the Champaign City Council to fund a study of local needs for reparations. Please come out to support our speakers near the 7 pm starting time of upcoming Champaign Council meetings -- your presence helps! Dates: Aug 18, Sept 15, Oct 20, and Nov 17. If you're interested in speaking to the Champaign City Council about reparations, please email preferred date and topic to cureparations@gmail.com

N'nanba (Robin Rue Simmons), former alderman in Evanston, Illinois -- who spearheaded the passage of reparations legislation in 2019 to transfer $10 million in 10 years to African American residents harmed by Evanston’s housing policies -- will speak at 7 pm on October 15 at New Covenant Fellowship in Champaign. This free event will be open to the public.
N'nanba's work is featured in the PBS documentary "The Big Payback." In 2019 Evanston became the first community in the country to offer publicly funded reparations to African Americans harmed by Evanston’s housing policies. After her work on Evanston’s Council, N'nanba formed FirstRepair, a not-for-profit working nationally to educate and equip leaders, stakeholders, and allies who are advancing local reparations policies that remedy historic and ongoing anti-Black practices. The C-U Reparations Coalition joined forces with Good Trouble Lives On! We tabled during the Urbana Good Trouble Lives On Weekend of Action at the Champaign Public Library, and Jeff Trask conducted a teach-in at the Spurlock Museum.
Jada Fulcher organized a reparations letter writing zoom session on Sunday July 19, 4-6pm. Participants got help finding out who their Champaign council member is and assistance on how to write a compelling, original letter. On Saturday, April 25, 2026, the Illinois ADCRC held a public reparations hearing. The event took place at Chicago's DuSable Black History Museum and a recorded livestream is available here.
On April 23 and June 23 (2026), our president, Jeff Trask, served as facilitator of monthly First Repair Midwest Reparations Strategy Sessions.
